King County Decks isn’t a new company trying to figure things out on your project. We’re an experienced team with deep roots in Washington State residential construction — founded by builders who have spent over two decades perfecting their craft on custom homes across the Pacific Northwest before bringing that same expertise to outdoor living spaces and exterior home improvement.
We’re licensed, bonded, and insured. We pull permits. We show up on time. We do the work we quoted, at the price we quoted, and we stand behind it. In an industry full of shortcuts, that still stands out — and it’s exactly why homeowners across King County keep calling us back and sending us their neighbors.
Our Story — From Custom Home Builders to King County's Most Trusted Exterior Contractors
King County Decks was founded by Max Kovalev and Sergey Kuyan, two builders whose professional roots go back over 23 years through their parent company, MJK Construction — a well-regarded residential construction firm with a long track record of quality home building across Oregon and Washington.
Over the course of building custom homes, Max and Sergey noticed a consistent pattern: homeowners who loved their houses were frustrated by outdoor spaces that didn’t match. Decks built by others that sagged after two winters. Railings that failed inspection. Contractors who took deposits and disappeared, or who built without permits and left the homeowner holding the liability.
They saw an opportunity — and a responsibility. The same structural standards, materials knowledge, and project management discipline that produces a quality custom home should apply to every deck, every roofline, every exterior wall. So they launched King County Decks to bring that standard to a part of the industry that badly needed it.
Today, King County Decks serves hundreds of homeowners across King County and the greater Seattle metro area — delivering custom deck builds, roofing, siding, windows, and exterior repairs with the same commitment to quality and integrity that has defined MJK Construction for over two decades.

Max brings over 23 years of hands-on residential construction experience to every King County Decks project. His background spans custom home framing, structural systems, and exterior building science — giving him a depth of understanding about how homes perform over time in the Pacific Northwest climate that most deck contractors simply don’t have.
Max leads project design and structural oversight at King County Decks, ensuring every build is engineered correctly, permitted properly, and executed to a standard that holds up for decades.
Sergey Kuyan — Co-Founder & Project Director
Sergey’s expertise spans project management, client relations, and construction operations developed over 23+ years in the residential building industry. He is the operational backbone of King County Decks — coordinating scheduling, subcontractors, material procurement, and permit management across every active project.
